Course leader

 Myc Riggulsford MCIoJ, MCIPR, has over 25 years experience in journalism, public relations and issue management.  He is a frequent broadcaster on national and regional television and radio, and writes about the environment, renewable energy, climate change, animal rights and other science issues in magazines in the UK and Europe. 

As well as active involvement in front line issue management, Myc Riggulsford lectures to postgraduates, undergraduates and science journalists on ethics, pressure groups, media, communications, issue management and the public understanding of science, medicine, engineering, technology, and the environment.  For seven years as Director of the Research for Health Charities Group he represented 95 medical research charities including the Wellcome Trust on sensitive issues including the use of animals in research.

Myc Riggulsford has developed business presentation and media training for five UK Government Research Councils, three Directorates-General of the European Commission and UK, Spanish, Ukrainian, German and Indian universities.  

Getting the Message Out – Press Officer Skills, 8 October

The one day workshop develops the skills press officers need to get successful media coverage and shows how to make research engaging for public audiences and key decision makers. 
Constructive feedback and advice on delegates’ own efforts are provided.
The course is introductory level and is suitable for newly appointed research staff or for those a few years into their careers who would like to improve their basic skills.

We are not planning to run the advanced course on crisis management this year, but we could provide it as an inhouse course if there was sufficient interest.
