[CIUDAD DE MÉXICO] El suicidio de la joven colombiana Catalina Gutiérrez el 21 de julio debido al maltrato que enfrentó durante su residencia médica desató conmoción entre la comunidad médica de ese país y puso los reflectores en la salud mental de estudiantes de medicina y residentes de toda la región.
El suceso coincidió con estudios y encuestas recientes que reportan aumento de jóvenes con estrés, ansiedad y/o depresión debido a presiones propias de la profesión pero, sobre todo, a agresiones y humillaciones que se normalizaron en la educación médica.
En un artículo publicado recientemente en Frontiers in Psychology, investigadores del Instituto Nacional de Psiquiatría Ramón de la Fuente Muñíz (INPRFM), México, reportan que la depresión y la ansiedad de centenas de residentes mexicanos está relacionada con agresiones de sus superiores.
