IDRC AI4PEP Project, and Partners Host Two Panels at UNGA 79 Science Summit


The Global South Artificial Intelligence for Pandemic and Epidemic Preparedness and Response (AI4PEP), in collaboration with IDRC) and other partners will lead two panel discussions on envisioning a future where AI solutions in global health are equitable, just, and safe for all at the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 79). Details about each virtual session, scheduled for September 12 and 18, 2024, are below.
The Science Summit at UNGA is a prestigious global forum that brings together leading scientists, policymakers, innovators, and thought leaders to tackle the world’s most urgent scientific and technological challenges. This event is a vibrant platform for presenting groundbreaking research, exchanging knowledge, and promoting inclusive international cooperation. It aims to bridge the gap between science and policy, ensuring that scientific advancements inform the development and implementation of effective, sustainable, and inclusive global policies. Participants will engage in a variety of sessions, plenaries, and workshops covering a wide range of topics aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN Summit of the Future.
Both sessions are convened by AI4PEP, in collaboration with IDRC, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Africa-Canada Artificial Intelligence and Data Innovation Consortium (ACADIC), Jacaranda Health, Climate Change AI, Digital Health Africa, and 16 universities and research institutions from across the Global South, including Africa, Asia, Latin America & the Caribbean, and the Middle East & North Africa.

The UNGA 79 Science Summit represents a significant opportunity for AI4PEP and partners to bring together diverse stakeholders to showcase AI innovations from the Global South on a global stage.
