[YAOUNDE] L’épidémie de Mpox constitue, depuis le mois d’août, une urgence de
santé publique de portée internationale (USPPI) et une urgence de santé continentale.
La décision a été prise par l’OMS et Africa CDC en réponse à la recrudescence de la maladie en République démocratique du Congo (RDC) et à sa propagation dans plusieurs autres pays africains, ainsi que du fait de l’apparition de nouveaux variants, notamment la souche virale clade 1b (qui provient de la souche clade 1) potentiellement plus transmissible.
L’apparition de cette nouvelle souche est intervenue au cours de la réplication du virus dans l’organisme, explique Samuel Boland, responsable de l’incident Mpox au Bureau régional de l’OMS pour l’Afrique.
