Invitation: Yale University’s Climate Week NYC Event & Expert Interviews (September 24-27)

24/09/2024 - 27/09/2024 Yale University
Location: New York
Address Yale Club of New York City, 50 Vanderbilt Avenue, NY.

We would like to invite you to Yale University’s Climate Week NYC Event. For the first time, Yale will host the Yale Planetary Solutions' Climate Week event, September 24-27, in New York City. Close to 100 of the world’s leading experts on climate change will share their research and perspectives on the most relevant topics of the day. Speakers include former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, World Trade Organization Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and climate investor Tom Steyer, among many others.

We hope you can join us. We invite you to set up interviews with the experts who plan to share their research and solutions, or to attend any of the series of lectures, panels, workshops, and events. The events will be held at the Yale Club of New York City, 50 Vanderbilt Avenue, NY. (Next door to Grand Central Station)

Key sessions and speakers will address a host of topics, including:

  • The Mental Health Fallout of Climate Change: A Growing Crisis: In the next two decades, climate change will significantly worsen mental health, especially for children, the elderly, marginalized communities, and climate refugees. Experts examine new ways to deal with increased “eco-anxiety,” depression, PTSD, and suicide rates.
  • Extreme Weather: Nature’s Alarm System: The WHO estimates that between 2030 and 2050, climate change will cause an additional 250,000 deaths per year. Experts discuss how to use extreme weather events as a wake-up call to confront climate change.
  • Children’s Health and Climate Change – Children are among the most vulnerable to climate change. By 2050 almost every child under 18 in the world – nearly 2.2 billion – will be exposed to high heatwave frequency, up from only 24% of children in 2020. Experts examine ways to prioritize children’s health and wellbeing in the global climate agenda.
  • Building Bi-Partisan Climate Action - panelists will speak from first-hand experience about how to build bridges across ideological differences and how to make climate change a bipartisan priority during an election year with inevitable shifts in the control of government.
  • AI: The Game Changer in Climate Defense – Find out how AI will revolutionize disaster prediction and protect biodiversity on a global scale. Panelists will explore emerging AI solutions and their risks.
  • Forward-thinking businesses from Silicon Valley to Uganda. How they are leading the charge for climate justice – how new incentives and funding are spurring the private sector to engage and invest in climate solutions in vulnerable and underrepresented communities.

Yale Planetary Solutions (YPS) is at the forefront of Yale’s efforts to address the planet’s most critical environmental challenges. From pioneering nature-based solutions for carbon capture to harnessing the power of AI for biodiversity protection, YPS is transforming cutting-edge science discoveries into practical, actionable solutions.

Testimonials

For well over a decade, in my capacity as a researcher, broadcaster, and producer, I have relied heavily on Alphagalileo.
All of my work trips have been planned around stories that I've found on this site.
The under embargo section allows us to plan ahead and the news releases enable us to find key experts.
Going through the tailored daily updates is the best way to start the day. It's such a critical service for me and many of my colleagues.
Koula Bouloukos, Senior manager, Editorial & Production Underknown
We have used AlphaGalileo since its foundation but frankly we need it more than ever now to ensure our research news is heard across Europe, Asia and North America. As one of the UK’s leading research universities we want to continue to work with other outstanding researchers in Europe. AlphaGalileo helps us to continue to bring our research story to them and the rest of the world.
Peter Dunn, Director of Press and Media Relations at the University of Warwick
AlphaGalileo has helped us more than double our reach at SciDev.Net. The service has enabled our journalists around the world to reach the mainstream media with articles about the impact of science on people in low- and middle-income countries, leading to big increases in the number of SciDev.Net articles that have been republished.
