eNeuron project shares insights on empowering integrated local energy communities

21/10/2024 youris.com

A best practices book for integrated local energy communities (ILECs) has been published by the eNeuron project to help them navigate the complex interactions across multiple technical and legal domains.

To successfully implement an ILEC, meticulous planning and ongoing oversight are essential. Nevertheless, ILECs present a compelling alternative to centralised energy supply, and they play a crucial role in the energy transition. The latest best practice book from the EU-funded project eNeuron, offers recommendations, lessons learned, and practical strategies to facilitate the effective implementation of ILECs.

Starting with a European perspective, the book examines current policies and regulatory frameworks, alongside critical technical aspects related to the integration of innovative energy technologies. It also addresses non-technical challenges such as financial barriers, behavioural trends, and the importance of community acceptance and engagement.

Drawing on successful business models and pilot activities, the book provides practical methodologies for overcoming these challenges. It emphasises the role of impact assessment in evaluating the tangible environmental benefits of ILECs, offering a strategic roadmap for scalable and replicable energy solutions across Europe.

Background
Drawing on the concept of micro and macro energy hubs, the EU-funded eNeuron project develops a range of cloud-based tools to seamlessly integrate multi-carrier energy systems and simulate peer-to-peer energy trading in local, real-time markets.

Going through the tailored daily updates is the best way to start the day. It's such a critical service for me and many of my colleagues.
Koula Bouloukos, Senior manager, Editorial & Production Underknown
We have used AlphaGalileo since its foundation but frankly we need it more than ever now to ensure our research news is heard across Europe, Asia and North America. As one of the UK’s leading research universities we want to continue to work with other outstanding researchers in Europe. AlphaGalileo helps us to continue to bring our research story to them and the rest of the world.
Peter Dunn, Director of Press and Media Relations at the University of Warwick
AlphaGalileo has helped us more than double our reach at SciDev.Net. The service has enabled our journalists around the world to reach the mainstream media with articles about the impact of science on people in low- and middle-income countries, leading to big increases in the number of SciDev.Net articles that have been republished.
