Announcing a new publication for Marine Development journal. In this research article the authors Asif Khan, Congmei Shi and Fayyaz Ali from School of Political Science and Public Administration, Soochow University, Suzhou, China and Department of Pakistan Studies and Political Science, University of Science and Technology Bannu, Bannu, Pakistan discuss a case study of Gwadar Port of Pakistan with respect to integrated approaches to strengthening maritime security.

Gwadar Port is a vital component of Pakistan’s development and an essential element in the Belt and Road Initiative and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. Its completion holds the promise of economic growth for Baluchistan and Pakistan and provides a crucial trade route for land-locked Central Asian nations. Gwadar Port faces many significant challenges related to maritime security due to the region’s poverty, instability, and particularly its separatist activities.

This study on the experience of port management in China and Pakistan offers strategies for enhancing security management in Gwadar Port. These strategies include improved coordination between entities, increased security measures, and strengthened cooperation with the Chinese stakeholders engaged in port projects. Prioritizing the development of local communities and education is crucial to ensure the well-being of both port workers and the surrounding population. The conclusion also stresses the significance of international cooperation, the sharing of information, and improved foresight to strengthen the security framework of Gwadar Port. Integrating best practices and refining approaches will improve safety management, safeguard the facilities, and foster their sustainable growth.

Testimonials

For well over a decade, in my capacity as a researcher, broadcaster, and producer, I have relied heavily on Alphagalileo.
All of my work trips have been planned around stories that I've found on this site.
The under embargo section allows us to plan ahead and the news releases enable us to find key experts.
Going through the tailored daily updates is the best way to start the day. It's such a critical service for me and many of my colleagues.
Koula Bouloukos, Senior manager, Editorial & Production Underknown
We have used AlphaGalileo since its foundation but frankly we need it more than ever now to ensure our research news is heard across Europe, Asia and North America. As one of the UK’s leading research universities we want to continue to work with other outstanding researchers in Europe. AlphaGalileo helps us to continue to bring our research story to them and the rest of the world.
Peter Dunn, Director of Press and Media Relations at the University of Warwick
AlphaGalileo has helped us more than double our reach at SciDev.Net. The service has enabled our journalists around the world to reach the mainstream media with articles about the impact of science on people in low- and middle-income countries, leading to big increases in the number of SciDev.Net articles that have been republished.
