NTU Singapore launches new programme to nurture next generation of business leaders

Overseas exchange at UC Berkeley, $10,000 final-year project funding among programme’s key features

Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) has launched the NBS Global Leaders programme – the University’s sixth signature programme – to give students a ‘supercharged’ business education that lays the foundation for impactful global careers, and nurture them into confident leaders who can thrive in today’s complex business landscape.

Offered by the Nanyang Business School (NBS) at NTU Singapore, the programme is open to business and/or accountancy students in the new academic year that begins in August 2025.

A key highlight of the programme is a semester-long exchange at the University of California, Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, one of the world’s best business schools where students can enhance their cultural intelligence, forge international connections, and develop a global mindset.

In their final year, students will work in teams to implement a meaningful initiative that tackles a pressing need for a chosen community with $10,000 in funding, such as starting a social enterprise or developing a new product that addresses a community need.

NTU Deputy President and Provost Professor Ling San said: “The NBS Global Leaders programme aims to nurture business-oriented students to become effective leaders who can navigate the complexities of the modern business landscape. Students gain business and cultural insights and develop international perspectives through a blend of hands-on learning, overseas and industry exposure, mentorship by industry leaders, and workshops aimed at professional and personal growth. This will equip them with the tools and skills necessary to drive meaningful change in both the businesses they lead and the communities they serve.”

Going beyond the classroom to shape future business leaders

Industry exposure is another main component of the NBS Global Leaders programme. Students will get to tackle real-world challenges through internship opportunities locally and in key global markets in Asia, the United States and Europe.

In addition, students will get to shadow and learn directly from top executives through a structured six-month mentorship programme, which offers a close-up look at the decision-making that happens at the top. NBS will also organise curated industry workshops in fields like investment banking and management consulting to develop and sharpen students’ business acumen.

Beyond academics, students will get to find their voice and strengthen their leadership and communication skills through targeted coaching and public speaking programmes. Students can also start building their professional network through industry visits, alumni events, and workshops.

The NBS Global Leaders programme is open to freshmen in the new academic year that begins in August 2025. Applicants should have excellent co-curricular records, strong leadership qualities and potential, as well as solid communication and interpersonal skills.

Students will have to be enrolled in the following four-year programmes:
- Double Degree in Accountancy and Business
- Double Degree in Accountancy & Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
- Bachelor of Applied Computing in Finance
- Bachelor of Accountancy (Sustainability Management and Analytics)

Yu Jia Xun, who will be enrolling in NTU’s Double Degree in Accountancy and Business programme this year, said: "As an incoming student, I am excited about the opportunities that the NBS Global Leaders programme offers. I look forward to the innovative learning experiences, the chance to learn from top industry leaders, and the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of peers. This programme is the ideal platform to launch my career and make a global impact. I believe it will be a transformative journey and the Global Leaders programme will be a cornerstone of my future success."

The NBS Global Leaders programme adds to NTU’s suite of five other signature scholars programmes, each designed to create an intellectually stimulating and enriching academic environment for students with various interests.

For instance, the Turing AI Scholars Programme launched earlier this year supports exceptionally talented individuals in advancing AI research and creating cutting-edge solutions that make the world a better place.

The Renaissance Engineering Programme (REP) is an integrated, rigorous and fully residential programme with a curriculum that covers a broad spectrum of multidisciplinary subjects bridging Engineering, Business and the Liberal Arts that leads to a Bachelor of Engineering Science degree and a Master of Science in Technology Management) in 4.5 years.
