eLTER (European Long-Term Ecosystem Research) Transnational and Remote Access (TA-RA) calls for proposals are part of the eLTER PLUS initiative, which provides researchers access to a network of long-term research sites across Europe. The program supports studies in biodiversity, biogeochemistry, hydrology, and socio-ecological research.

In the previous four eLTER TA-RA calls, researchers were given access to a growing network of European Long-Term Ecosystem Research (eLTER) sites, promoting interdisciplinary ecosystem science. Across the first four calls of the eLTER Transnational Access (TA) and Remote Access (RA) program, a total of more than 50 projects have been funded. These projects cover diverse research areas, such as biodiversity, biogeochemistry, hydrology, and socio-ecological studies. The funding supported small to medium-sized research endeavors at various eLTER sites, which are equipped with advanced monitoring tools and infrastructure.

These projects have significantly contributed to understanding long-term ecosystem dynamics and socio-ecological systems across Europe. The initiative is funded by the European Union under the Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe programs, supporting interdisciplinary and collaborative ecosystem science.

All sites included in the eLTER PLUS (Transnational Access) TA and (Remote Access) RA Scheme are equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation to enable comprehensive ecological measurement and experimental campaigns. The long-term data on those sites is available to compare with or to be used as a reference. Likewise, state-of-the-art socio-economic research is conducted at several of them. Future applicants are encouraged to read the Blogs from the Field articles created by users of the eLTER-TA scheme. These provide a glimpse of the hands-on experience of other scientists and will help them develop ideas for their own research and future blog posts.
