CABI’s new
Aquaculture and Fisheries Collection, launched in January 2025, provides students and those in the industry with the very latest and comprehensive information to help support sustainable practices in aquaculture.
The resource, now available on the
CABI Digital Library, covers information on aspects of aquaculture and fisheries including clams, mussels, oysters, winkles, scallops, abalone, fishes, lobsters, crayfish, crabs, prawn, shrimp, microalgae, octopus and squid, as well as sea cucumbers and sea urchins and seaweeds.
It has been curated by CABI’s subject specialists and offers 30 books cover to cover and over 500,000 bibliographic records derived from the acclaimed
CAB Abstracts database with around 27,000 records added annually.
Curated by subject experts
CABI Aquaculture and Fisheries Collection also includes over 40 specially commissioned CABI Review articles, written by subject experts and peer reviewed, as well as smart searches offering curated searches for commonly asked questions and topics.
The resource further provides instant access to key species datasheets from the
CABI Compendium: Aquaculture – giving users the knowledge to answer questions and support decision-making in aquatic animal and plant production.
Additionally, CABI Aquaculture and Fisheries Collection consists of a growing collection of full-text content with over 37,000 journal articles, conference proceedings, and policy documents.
Dr Georgina Grell, Publisher – Animal Health, said, “CABI’s Aquaculture and Fisheries Collection is a carefully curated resource of aquaculture and fisheries science covering all areas of interest to those studying, researching and working in the industry.
“It is suited to the information needs of those based in academic institutions, practitioners and scientists, and those in industry and aquaculture and fishery management.
“Datasheets have been included covering aquatic species and diseases to support best practice and content/records are continually added to this growing resource to keep users up to date.”
Key food and nutrition resources
Dr Grell said aquaculture and fisheries are key food and nutrition resources around the world. This collection covers environmental impacts, food security and breeding & husbandry as well as animal welfare which align with several of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Back in October 2024, CABI acquired an aquaculture books list of 18 titles from
5m Books – that covers fish farming practices and sea life pathology – and many more are currently in the pipeline. The titles include
The Shrimp Book II, edited by Victoria Alday-Sanz,
Aquaculture Business, edited by Carole Engle, and
Molluscan Shellfish Aquaculture, edited by Sandra Shumway.
The titles complement the rest of the books programme by strengthening an area that is important to CABI. Highlights include:
Climate Change on Diseases and Disorders of Finfish in Cage Culture,
Aquaculture and Fisheries Biotechnology, and
