Nazarbayev University

Nazarbayev University (NU) was founded in 2010 as the Kazakhstan’s comprehensive, research intensive institution for academics and researchers to collaborate. We’re also the country’s first global-level, autonomous research university. NU is now ranked in the top 30 percent of international research universities according to the 2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR) and intends to reach the top 20% of global universities by 2030. The University (2023 data) has 4,790 undergraduate students, 1,653 graduate students, 647 foundation students, and 520 full-time faculty (including 27 postdoctoral scholars) and 48 classroom, teaching assistants. NU’s SCOPUS scholarly output (2019 -2024) amounted to 6,776 publications (27.8% in the top 10% journals by CiteScore). As an integral part of our strategy to improve our THE WUR position to top 300 by 2030, we are pursuing options to improve or teaching and research reputation. Our analysis of our WUR position shows we are very weak on the reputational indicators, which is not hard to understand given the age of our institution and our location. We think that AlphaGalileo’s business-to-business news service can leverage NU teaching/learning & research achievements on the world stage.
