First time regional conference has been held in the Caribbean
The American College of Cardiology (ACC), ACC Dominican Republic Chapter and the Dominican Society for Cardiology will host ACC Latin America 2024 on September 19-21 in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. For the first time the conference will be held in the Caribbean, bringing together leading experts to engage on topics spanning the entire field of cardiovascular medicine.
“In keeping with ACC's Global vision, the conference has been structured so that regional providers benefit from an unprecedented activity, including unique opportunities to network with faculty directly involved in the science being discussed,” said Cesar Herrera, MD, FACC, ACC Latin America 2024 co-chair and clinical associate professor of medicine at Montefiore-Einstein Center for Heart and Vascular Care in New York City. "Given Latin America’s cardiovascular disease prevalence and subsequent challenges, bringing the latest science to the region will ultimately benefit the care of populations in need.”
Participants will have the opportunity to attend education sessions on the latest science impacting the field, including:
- Transforming Cardiovascular Care in Latin America: Integrating SGLT2 Inhibitors and GLP1 Receptor Antagonists in Clinical Practice
- Women Heart Matters: Navigating the Nexus of Pregnancy, Hormones and Cardiovascular Health
- Update in Atrial Fibrillation Guidelines: When Do We Need to “Turn the Beat Around?”
- Top Clinical Trials
“I am very excited about this year’s ACC Latin America conference in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic,” said Juan Aranda, Jr., MD, FACC, ACC Latin America 2024 co-chair, professor and chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Florida. “This year’s topics of atrial fibrillation, heart failure, prevention and women’s heart disease will allow physicians from Latin America to share ideas and best practices in treating cardiovascular disease in the region.”
During the meeting, ACC Latin America chapter teams will compete in ACC FIT Jeopardy, a competition between three-person teams of ACC Fellows-In-Training that tests their clinical knowledge. The ACC Latin America chapter teams will be quizzed on a variety of cardiology-based topics, including imaging, prevention and interventional cardiology. Three teams will compete during ACC Latin America 2024 and the winning team will compete at the ACC.25 FIT Jeopardy competition in Chicago in March 2025.
