Landcent is pleased to announce its participation in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Science Summit 2024, emphasizing the crucial role of indigenous knowledge in advancing global health and sustainable development.

This event is set to focus on the post-2030 agenda and the Summit of the Future, providing a critical platform to showcase Africa's leadership in harnessing indigenous knowledge for the benefit of all.

Landcent will host a dedicated half-day session on African Indigenous Knowledge, Artificial Intelligence and Co-creation Towards Leadership, Policy Development and Innovative Health Solutions, particularly within the context of the UN's post-2030 agenda and the Summit of the Future.

The session will feature presentations, a demonstration of Landcent’s first-of-its-kind indigenous knowledge-based AI-powered drug discovery platform, and a dynamic panel discussion, providing a unique avenue for sharing insights into the rich history, present-day applications, and future possibilities of African indigenous health knowledge. The session will explore the ethical considerations of integrating indigenous knowledge with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, engaging in crucial discussions on intellectual property rights, benefit-sharing models, and data sovereignty.

Further, the session will highlight the leading role of African institutions and experts in driving innovation and shaping global health solutions, and seek to foster collaboration between academia, industry, policymakers, and indigenous communities to unlock the full potential of this vital knowledge resource.

Keynote speakers H.E. Amb. Cessouma Minata Samete (African Union) and Mosoka P. Fallah, PhD, MPH, MA (African CDC), will highlight the African Union's vision for integrating indigenous knowledge into continental development strategies and the African CDC's innovative knowledge management initiatives.

Professor Peter Atadja, Landcent’s Chief Scientific Officer together with Dominic Forson, Landcent's AI/ML Product Manager will discuss Landcent's Indigenous Knowledge led projects, including the vector control efforts in China with TCM and the AI powered Landcent discovery platform, as a tool for accelerating the discovery and development of new health solutions based on African indigenous knowledge.

A panel discussion moderated by Magdalena Skipper, Editor-in-Chief of Nature, will bring together experts from various sectors to explore the critical role of partnerships in supporting indigenous-led innovation and translating research into real-world impact.

About Landcent

Landcent accelerates the fight against diseases of poverty, starting with malaria, by developing and delivering affordable, sustainable solutions, that are safe to use at scale.

Malaria is a disease caused by poverty and results in poverty. It is a vicious cycle that kills thousands every day, including a child under 5, every single minute. For almost a decade, cases of malaria have been on the rise, with 2022 recording an estimated 249M cases.

For Landcent, the issue of malaria elimination is as much a case of disease prevention as it is of justice. Contributing factors to the rise in malaria are growing insecticidal resistance and the lack of product innovation. Landcent tackles both issues head-on through its suite of products and solutions. Landcent is focused on the Sub-Saharan region which suffers 95% of all malaria cases worldwide. It is the region that records close to 96% of all deaths. With climate change and economic disparity further exacerbating the situation, the time to act is now.

Landcent looks forward to welcoming participants from around the world to join us in New York as we collaborate on advancing healthcare innovations, sustainability, and the critical role of indigenous knowledge in shaping a healthier future for all.
